Nanoparticle-modified coatings by electrophoretic deposition for corrosion protection of magnesium

Magnesium (Mg) and its biocompatible alloys are used as biodegradable materials for temporary implant applications. However, the fast electrochemical reactions in physiological environment can lead to premature failure damage surrounding tissues. Here, we report on nanoparticle-modified biopolymer composite coatings processed using alternating current electrophoretic deposition (AC-EPD) control corrosion process of Mg–Al alloys. Chitosan–gelatin incorporating bioactive glass particles reinforcement were supplemented with ZnO CeO2 nanoparticles resistance was evaluated. obtained AC signals superimposed a direct field appeared compact homogeneous. had low surface coverage significant defects. As result, CeO2-supplemented little 4 min effectively reduced density (icorr) Ringer’s solution, whereas ZnO-supplemented did not. hold potential fine-tuning degradation Mg implants.
